American Charitable Giving Surged in 2017

In a recent report by Giving USA, Americans gave $410.02 Billion to charity in 2017, crossing the $400 billion mark for the first time. The report cites four sources of giving: individuals, foundations, bequests, and corporations. Individual Americans were responsible for 70% of the gifts, leaving private foundations in second place with a mere 16% in comparison. Although it would seem, individuals also helped foundations tremendously over the past year since giving was up 15.5%, the largest gain in any subsector.
